TMD symptoms are not all the same. Some patients experience different symptoms than others and in all levels of severity. In addition, different things trigger flare-ups for each patient. Here are some of the common symptoms of TMD:
- Pain and tenderness in the muscles that surround the jaw
- Pain and tenderness in facial muscles
- Pain and tenderness in the neck and shoulders
- Chronic headaches especially while experiencing other TMJ disorder symptoms
- Stiffness in the jaw, facial, and neck muscles
- Dizziness
- Vision problems
- A “locking” jaw
- The inability to fully open or close your mouth
- Popping, clicking, or similar sounds when opening or closing the mouth, sometimes painful
- Ear pain, ear ringing
- Pressure and stuffiness in the ears
