It’s an exciting time in the world of home dental products. Several manufacturers of electric toothbrushes have recently developed apps for mobile devices. We of Bishop & Bishop Dental thought our patients might want to know about how the new programs could help include their dental health.
A person must be brushing for two full minutes with a manual toothbrush to get the full effect. For people with disabilities, this may not be possible, and children often don’t have the necessary attention spans. Some of the new apps are designed to rectify these problems. Users can now receive feedback about which tooth surfaces they’re missing, whether they should adjust the toothbrush’s settings, and how much they have improved. Children receive the same information through mobile games but are encouraged to brush the full amount of time by progressing through the game by improving their brushing.
Electric toothbrushes are not a cheap investment. However, patients who have struggled with maintaining oral hygiene may find that fun and feedback were just what they needed.
